Merry Christmas to all!!

This is the first song I decided to learn with my newly acquired ukulele. What a fun instrument to learn and play! There will probably be more ukulele covers to come.

In standard G-C-E-A tuning, here are the chords and lyric. Enjoy!

C            Cmaj7        C6          Cmaj7
Jingle bell, Jingle bell, Jingle bell rock
C6           Cmaj7     G7
Jingle bells swing and Jingle bells ring
G7
Snowin’ and blowin’ up bushels of fun
D7                 G7
Now the jingle hop has begun

My guitar and bass cover of one of my favorite RHCP songs, Californication. Been messing with a bass guitar in the last little while but this is the first song I recorded a bass track (should have picked an easier song to start learning bass haha…)

Also, I used a different video software (Sony Vegas Pro 12) for the video editing this time.

My electric guitar cover on the vocal melody with a backing track of “Demons” by Imagine Dragons.

I learned the song by ear (still needs a lot of work on) and played what I heard so I may not have played the song exactly as the record. Plus, I made a few mistakes here and there (oops~~).

“Mary Did You Know” is one of my favorite Christmas songs. Imagine the very first Christmas night when Mary was holding this baby in her arms, she probably wouldn’t know her baby would walk on water or calm a storm with His hand.  Now, we have the bible telling us who this baby boy Jesus was and why He came – this is what Christmas is about. Let us praise Him for who He is and what He has done for us.

This year, I am experimenting to finger-pick the song. I put the capo on the 5th fret but you can put it anywhere that fits your vocal range. My singing is very so so but it’s kind of hard to recognize the song without the vocal. Haha.. something to work on next year.

Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with warmth and cheers!

Haven’t recorded a video for a while. Here is my guitar cover of “Because We Can” by Bon Jovi. This song is from Bon Jovi’s 2013 “What About Now” album. I noticed his more recent albums are more like pop rather than rock but regardless, I like the guitar solo parts of this song – it’s quite catchy and fun to learn.

Since I have recently started learning bass, just for the fun of it, I also recorded an instrumental version with a bass track, guitar tracks for solo and rhythm, along with a background drum track. The drum track is not played by me of course (I use an app to generate that).

Here is a video of me playing along.

The Scientist by Coldplay. A piano-driven song but still mellow to strum along on an acoustic guitar. Capo on 3rd fret to match the original recording.

The only tricky little bit is the G chord (relative to capo) marked as G* on the guitar chord chart. At the end of beat 4, there’s a short note that you will hear on the original recording before going into the D chord. I played the G shape but with my pinky finger moved to the 5th fret on high E string relative to capo.

It’s Christmas time … let’s do a Christmas song. This year, I have chosen the traditional “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”. There are many versions of this songs done by many artists. I like Jewel’s version so mine is similar but not exactly the same. Thank you Jesus for His humble birth and let us praise to the new born King!

May the blessings of Christmas fill your home and heart with peace, joy, and happiness. Wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Here is a video of my guitar and vocal cover (Yay! my first vocal cover). Pardon my scratchy voice … still recovering from a nasty cold 😦
