2018 was a crazy busy but very blessed year. As you may have noticed, I have not been making music videos… relax, I didn’t give up on my musical journey (keep reading and and you’ll see). So, counting my blessings this year …

New job in May 2018
This is a new chapter in my career and new challenges (good ones).  I have the opportunities to work with many new people (and many familiar ones too) and never did I have a boring day since I accepted the new job. I am getting the hang of it and look forward to kicking the gears in full motion in 2019.

“A Summer to Remember 2018” Concert in August 2018
August 18, 2018 – Along with my friends Evelyn (lead vocal), Rodger (keyboard), Alex (backup vocal), and myself (acoustic guitar) from our Christian Fellowship group, we were invited to the “A Summer to Remember & More 2018” concert hosted by Priscilla. We performed an acoustic version of the song “No Longer Slaves“.

Golf Trip with Friends in August 2018
We (14 of us) took advantage of the long weekend to hang out at the beautiful Radium Park Lodge. We played a few rounds of golf and had plenty of great time and great food. We also learned that Spencer and Jerry are great cooks (BBQ dinner and Japanese soft-boiled eggs for breakfast).

Golf tournament at Coloniale Golf Club in August 2018

We had our annual Club Championship at the Coloniale Golf Club on August 18-19 this year. This is the 2nd year I signed up for the Ladies club championship tournament. I was so stoked I actually won the low net category. Day 1, I shot 96 (gross) 70 (net) and Day 2 with a 99 (gross) 73 (net). That was pretty close to my handicap. Blessed with a little bit of luck, I also got the longest putt on hole #5 (and a bottle of wine) 🙂
[Rewind back to 2017] Last year, I “won” the “most honest” title (translation: the worst golfer of all haha…). Thanks to my hubby’s coaching in 2018, phew … I no longer hold that title.

Joined worship team at church in September 2018
Finally stepped out of my comfort zone and joined my church’s worship team as the bass player. I am really grateful for the opportunity to serve and enjoy the experience to grow spiritually and musically learning from other Christian musicians. Thanks for having me as part of this bigger family. If you are in Edmonton, Alberta please don’t be shy to visit Evolve Church (a new church just launched in September) and The River Community Church.

Mini Christmas concerts in December 2018
This year we decided to share our love of music and the joy of Christmas outside of our group. We did 2 mini Christmas concerts (December 8 and 16) at 2 senior/assisted living homes. We sang some Christmas carols and played some games. It was so great that we can share the Christmas joy and put a smile on someone’s face. We had just as much fun as the elderly did. We had Evelyn (vocal), Pascal (vocal), Rodger (piano), Tom (guitar, vocal), Brian (guitar, vocal), Caleb (sound) and haha… yes, I was on drums. That was the first time I ever played drums in public (definitely much help needed). Special thanks to my friend Carmen who provided the plastic Easter eggs that we filled with beans for the elderly to shake along and make some joyful sound with us.

Christmas Song Tradition December 2018
As I have done in the last few years, my Christmas tradition of learning a Christmas song each year … This year I chose “Away in a Manger”. This is the 2nd song I learned on keyboard. Definitely need to get some help with the keyboard … and a lot more help with the vocal (hmm… maybe not, I prefer playing an instrument than singing). Nevertheless, Merry Christmas.

Trip to Toronto in November 2018
Hubby and I took a short trip to Toronto to visit my family. My 2 brothers both have a new baby in their families – one boy and one girl. We also celebrated my mom’s (early) birthday.

Last but not least … Jamming with friends
Continued from last year, Our group (Heath, Constance, Ebony, Scott, Barb, Myles, and me) played as much as we can until our job situations pulled some of us out of town. Thanks Barb and Myles for letting us jam in your basement. I learned a lot from this experience.

Also had an opportunity to play with some friends at the Journey With Christ Church. They are such friendly people. If you are in Edmonton, Alberta please visit their church.

My guitar and bass cover of 21 Guns by Green Day. This song is quite fun to play with the various guitar parts. The video editing wasn’t too much fun though. I was messing with Sony Vegas Pro 12. Haha…  messed up a few places but you get the idea.

My guitar and bass cover of one of my favorite RHCP songs, Californication. Been messing with a bass guitar in the last little while but this is the first song I recorded a bass track (should have picked an easier song to start learning bass haha…)

Also, I used a different video software (Sony Vegas Pro 12) for the video editing this time.

Haven’t recorded a video for a while. Here is my guitar cover of “Because We Can” by Bon Jovi. This song is from Bon Jovi’s 2013 “What About Now” album. I noticed his more recent albums are more like pop rather than rock but regardless, I like the guitar solo parts of this song – it’s quite catchy and fun to learn.

Since I have recently started learning bass, just for the fun of it, I also recorded an instrumental version with a bass track, guitar tracks for solo and rhythm, along with a background drum track. The drum track is not played by me of course (I use an app to generate that).

Here is a video of me playing along.
